Changelog

Everything new on Waypoint — the free live map and flight tracker for Infinite Flight. Updates ship continuously; the highlights land here.

Airport Maps 2.0

8 Jul 2026

  • Gates now show their size class (A–F): open an airport, pick your aircraft, and only the gates big enough to fit it stay on the map — no more taxiing a widebody to a stand it will never fit.
  • Every gate dot now sits exactly on Infinite Flight’s own stand position, so it lines up with where the aircraft actually parks instead of drifting out onto the apron.
  • Finer ground detail: the thin apron lead-lines between the gate rows are drawn now, so busy terminals look complete instead of blank concrete.
  • More airports have gates — where map data was thin, especially smaller and regional fields, Infinite Flight’s own gate data fills the gaps, adding stands on thousands more airports.

Quality of Life

8 Jul 2026

  • Flight paths that cross the poles or the date line now draw correctly on the Globe — no more loops around the North Pole — and the 3D flight path works in Globe view too.
  • A compass button appears whenever the map is rotated; tap it to snap straight back to north. On phones it now sits in the bottom-left corner.
  • New setting: Lock map orientation — keep north up so the map can’t be rotated by accident.
  • Follow an aircraft in 3D and orbit the view with a MacBook trackpad, not just zoom.
  • Fleet Board: highlight your chosen aircraft on the map in any colour, just like the Friends list.
  • Open a shared flight link after the pilot has landed and gone offline and you’ll get a “Flight has ended” prompt — jump to their logbook or the live map instead of a dead link.
  • Airport ground maps load faster, and the airport panel now fills in on its own once its data is ready — no need to close and reopen it.
  • Mobile: the Filter and Fleet Board window opens centered now, and while following in 3D the search bar tucks away to give the tilted view more room.

3D Flight Path

7 Jul 2026

  • Follow any live flight and tap “3D” — the camera tilts into a cinematic chase view and the aircraft rises to its true altitude.
  • The flown route trails behind as a colored altitude ribbon that keeps drawing live, right up to the aircraft’s current position.
  • Surrounding traffic appears as boxes floating at their real altitude; the nearest airborne and runway aircraft get callsign + altitude tags, and everything glides smoothly between updates.
  • Real 3D terrain under the flight, with a sky on the horizon — a button toggles the mountain relief on/off, and the app eases it down automatically on weaker devices.
  • On phones: orbit the aircraft with one finger, pinch to zoom with two. Leaving 3D returns the camera to the normal top-down view.
  • Works in flight replays too (without the ambient traffic) — and on every device: desktop, tablet and phone.

Push Notifications

7 Jul 2026

  • Get notified even when Waypoint is closed — on your phone, in the app, or in a desktop browser.
  • Manage it all in Settings → Alerts: get a ping when a specific pilot comes online or takes off, when a virtual airline departs, when a controller opens a position, or when ATC opens at an airport you care about.
  • Events: subscribe to community events and pick the server(s) you fly — or all of them.
  • Special broadcasts: hand-picked moments from the Waypoint team, like the first flights of a brand-new aircraft.
  • iPhone: add Waypoint to your Home Screen first (Share button → Add to Home Screen), then enable alerts inside the installed app — that's how Apple allows notifications.
  • Everything is opt-in and off by default; unsubscribe any time from the same Alerts screen.

3D Terrain

6 Jul 2026

  • New “3D terrain” option in Settings: real global elevation relief — tilt the map with right-click drag (desktop) or a two-finger drag (phone).
  • Works with every basemap and with Globe view; sky gradient on the horizon.
  • Entirely opt-in and off by default — nothing extra loads unless you enable it.

Fleet Board

6 Jul 2026

  • Compare flights side by side in a movable board: pick VAs, liveries, friends, single pilots — or click aircraft on the map to add them.
  • Sortable columns (callsign, type, route, speed, altitude, progress, status) — configure them via the board’s own gear.
  • Optional “show only these aircraft on the map” filter that stays active while the board is closed.
  • On phones it lives inside the Filter tab.

Smoother Aircraft

6 Jul 2026

  • Taxiing aircraft now roll along the real taxiway network between updates.
  • Landing aircraft brake realistically on the runway instead of overshooting.
  • Flight tracks render 15-second turns as smooth arcs.
  • The altitude readout in the flight panel ticks live between updates.
